About Us

To promote healthy children, strong families and striving communities.

To help support and empower families in their relationships.

When Custody and Access issues arise, everyone is affected… especially children. When Supervised Access is required, the number of questions and concerns from parents and caregivers often doubles.

At Side by Side Services, we aim to help build healthy, loving child-parent relationships during some very tough personal times in their lives. We work with everyone individually on a common focus to support and encourage children during times of transitions to help guide them. It is our goal to support the healthy development of emotionally stable children, and to nurture all parties every step of the way.

Why Supervised Access is needed

In 2010/2011, ongoing divorce cases in the reporting provinces and territories grew to over 59,000, an increase of 5% from the year before. This increase includes Ontario. Due to the number of contested divorces and separations there is a longer period of resolution within the courts.

Children will often display the following behaviour, bitterness, stress, emotional pain, anxiety, fear, feeling abandoned, feeling betrayed and loss of self-esteem. The emotional impact on children is often determined by the continual exposure and conflict seen between parents. If there is continuous exposure and conflict, this negatively impacts the parenting and relationship with children. In a study, it was found that if parents are not able to build and help their children through a divorce there are long term negative effects.  “The highest impact of divorce on children comes 15 to 25 years after divorce, when the children enter into a serious romantic relationship, adolescence or young adult phase. They expect to fail and they fear loss, change and conflict.” (Judith Wallerstein www.children-and-divorce.com/effects-of-divorce-on-children.html)

A report conducted by Fiona Keely shared that parents found fewer conflict in supervised access situations.
